TriGrandPrix Kilkenny got underway on Saturday 23rd July in warm, sunny and perfect weather conditions. The international experience of TriGrandPrix attracted an international entry to the Kilkenny triathlon. More than 800 participants took part; many were coming from the UK, Spain and France, creating a truly international feel.

There were a number of distances which athletes took part in ranging from Super Sprint (500m swim, 20k bike, 3.3k run), Sprint (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) and Olympic Distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run).

270 athletes were ready at the start line for the Olympic Distance race and 236 successfully made it (189 Male and 32 Female). Owen Cummins took the win in the Male Race and Natalie Barnard on the Female Race.

Pedro Miguel, From the Valencia Triathlon, lead out of the swim in 14:25, however Cummins was just seconds back. Cummins then took the lead and never looked back to win in 1:48:42 setting up the Course Record. Raul Amatriain, TriGrandPrix Leader, used a strong bike and one of the quickest runs of the day in 33:31 to move into 2nd position. Jordi Pascual Sales took the final spot on the podium for the men.

In the women race Natalie Barnard was 2nd out of the water but soon took the lead on the bike to win in 2:12:49. Marta Gallart Penalva was second with a strong showing in all 3 disciplines and Niamh Richardson was 3rd with a quick 40:45 10k run.

440 athletes took part in the Sprint Distance race and for many it was their first ever triathlon. 137 were female Triathletes. The organization is delighted to see that through TriGrandPrix Triathlon Experiences (variety of distances) new people join the sport and the ratio between male and female is changing. In the men’s race Pedro Reig, Valencia Triathlon, was 1st and Nuria Morrio, also from Valencia Triathlon, took the win.
